Tableaux

Strategy Explanation: Tableaux is a group of silent, motionless figures used to represent a scene, theme, abstract idea, or an important moment in a narrative. Tableaux may be presented as stand-alone images to communicate one message or achieve particular effects.

Age Modifications: this strategy could be modified to work for any age group. To increase the difficulty for older students, they may be required to tell a story through a sequence of tableaux or be required to utilize more elements of tableaux. For younger students, they may need to only utilize 2-3 elements of tableaux.

Cross-curricular connection: Tableaux could be used in any subject area to convey a message or represent something. In language arts, students could create an image to match a section of text in a book without pictures. In social studies, students could re-create a tableau of a time during a historical event.
