The Elements of Tableaux

The above table outlines the elements of tableaux as specified in the arts curriculum by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Within a tableaux, character/role, body/gesture, energy, relationship, space, expression, and levels can all be present. As mentioned in the tableaux strategies post, the difficulty of the activity can be adjusted by the required number of elements students have to include or make evident in their tableaux. Although students may not need to include all seven elements may not be required in their tableaux presentation, it is important that students are taught about all of them.
