Caption Making

Strategy Explanation: Caption making is used to create titles, headlines and captions to accompany a visual representation. This could include adding a description or a title to a still image. The captions can be verbal or in written form (thought bubbles/ speech bubbles) and may include what a scene is about, what character is thinking or saying in the scene.

Cross-curricular connection: This strategy could very easily be integrated into tableaux or could be an activity on its own. As students are required to write and make inferences, caption making also connects to the language arts curriculum. Students are also required to analyze text or images to create a caption for an individual or item in the scenario.

Differentiated Instruction: Students of all ages and abilities can participate in this strategy. For those with visual impairments, the class could be read a text and have to rely solely on the oral reading of the text to create a caption.
